IN FALL
an eight week virtual residency —
You have been living
a life worth archiving.
There is a specific feeling that arrives in fall.
For me, something wants to slow down, collect, and gather materials in my home to experiment with. The air is shifting and so are my body’s needs.
It is easy to miss these subtle messages. We push through. We keep producing. We tell ourselves there will be time later to reflect, to create, to do the thing we keep saying we want to do.
IN FALL is an eight week residency built for the person who is craving an anchor to something meaningful and archival, something they can share in the future with their family.
What is IN FALL?
Collecting and gathering as a way of archiving your life. Creative making as a rite of passage.
For eight weeks you will move through the season with intention. Gathering what it offers, making something from what you find, and building a living archive of your own intelligence and experience.
We inquire about our roots, about fading traditions, and about that quiet seed of knowledge within you ~ passed from generation to generation.
What you collect, images, objects, words, plants, memories, questions, becomes the raw material for creative work that is entirely and specifically yours.
Every culture on earth has practiced some version of this. They called it different things, harvest ritual, creative ceremony, rite of passage. The structure was always the same: you enter, you gather, you make, you return different.
IN FALL is held online, over eight weeks, in community with others doing the same.
What a rite of passage actually is:
A rite of passage is like a crossing.
The oldest initiation stories send the traveler into the wilderness not to find something outside themselves ~ but to discover what was always inside, waiting for the right conditions to surface. The wilderness in this residency is the season itself. Fall strips things bare in preparation.
Before there were books, humans archived their lives through making ~ woven patterns, ritual objects, gathered plants, marks on stone. The archive became more than just a record, but a living transmission. A way of saying: I was here. I transformed. I carried this forward.
We begin through 8 weeks of creative making and experimentation.
What you will do:
Each week holds a theme drawn from the season ~ gathering, marking, tracing, preserving, releasing, translating, witnessing, returning. Within each theme you receive a prompt, a practice, and an invitation to make something. There is no right way to respond. The residency is structured enough to hold you and open enough to follow where you actually are.
You will collect ~ images, objects, textures, words, plants, memories. Anything the season offers that feels worth holding.
You will make ~ in whatever medium calls you. Writing, drawing, photographing, assembling, weaving, cooking, moving. The medium is not the point. The making is.
You will gather with others ~ in weekly live sessions where what you are making is witnessed by a community of people moving through the same eight weeks alongside you. The witnessing is part of the transformation.
By the end of eight weeks you will have something tangible.
A body of work, a personal archive, evidence of your own becoming over one season of your life.
Who is this for?
No portfolio required. No existing practice. No creative identity.
You need to be someone who senses their life contains more than they have had space to examine. Someone willing to treat the season as a research methodology and their own experience as the most vital material they have ever worked with.
Past participants: writers, educators, designers, healers, makers, parents, people between things, people in the middle of things, people who haven't made anything in years and people who make every day.
What they share is a willingness to show up for eight weeks and see what surfaces.
