As an Armenian artist, I aim to investigate the essence of unspoken human relation through movement, poetry, land, and sensational exploration.

With support from my collection of living archives, I develop works that embody philosophical, sociological, and psychological findings of a diaspora woman on the road.

The unity of research, contemplation, and sensation actively guides the way I process my representations of the unspoken, natural intelligence within, and it’s relation to historical and contemporary expressions.

“Aragatsotn”

combining field research on inherited cosmologies, poetic expression, and dance in an Armenian village

~a 3 week long artist residency~

I spent these three weeks getting a sense of the land, the community, and the inherited belief systems. Then, I held my Contemplate Workshop, which shared the art of storytelling. After leaving my residency, I put together this project, using poetry, photography, and visual media. I wanted to touch on the presence of the Soviet Union Era, while highlighting the ever evolving belief systems of the new generation.

“Run, I Run.”

a rite of self movement project run by Mary Lynn at Moovment House | photography by Shea Kluender

This project was an 8-week commitment into exploring creation from the aspects of play and experimentation. As a group, we built a backdrop made of our writings, poems, and reflections over the years. With the help of Mary-Lynn, we constructed a theatre dance piece that touched on familial tensions, grief, loss, and the resilience of the human heart. Our final show was celebrated with bread, butter, and champagne as we honored what was, together.

“Of the Seed of the Pomegranate”

Poetry in Motion on Film by. Michael Smith

This collaboration satisfied my dream of being able to touch on the suppression of Armenian women through poetry in motion. I wanted to tell the story of women covered in veils, married off to men, and forced to birth. The dark and light was representative of the Armenian Genocide, and how they split the seeds of pomegranates to survive. Through my movement, I am honoring the body of a woman, not as an item to be sexualized, but as a vessel of life, death, and rebirth.
